Kolkata, July 8 (IANS) The ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday held sit-in in Kolkata to protest against increase in prices of petroleum products and the "anti-people" policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre.

The protest was organised at Khidirpur locality in the city. Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim said: "We have to protest against the issue of price rise of petroleum products. This central government is not taking decisions in favour of the common people."

Hakim also attacked the Centre for alleged drive to privatise Indian Railways.

He said: "The BJP-led government has recently decided to allow private operators to run passenger trains on select routes. We protest against such moves. Our party will consolidate the protests with people across Bengal. The prices of fuel and other petroleum products is increasing every day. What is the Narendra Modi government doing about it? We want to raise the question."
