Pakistan launched Operation 'Grand Slam' in Chhamb sector aimed at Akhnoor in Jammu. Indians had battled Pakistanis in air and on ground at Kashmir.

6/4/1997Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This became inoperable due to power bus anamoly since Oct. 4, 1997. It was launched by European launch vehicle, Ariane from Kourov in French Guyana.

6/15/1899Roy Chowdhury Devipasad, modern Indian sculptor and painter, was born.
6/15/1899Amir Timur of Timur Lang invaded India with 92 squadrons of horses and 90,000 cavalry and reached the banks of Sindhu river near Atak city (now in Pakistan). He then attacked Delhi because its Muslim Sultanate was too tolerant of Hindu idolatry. A Mongolian follower of Sufism, he was one of the most ruthless of all conquerors. Timur crossed the Indus River at Attock (now in Pakistan) on 24 September 1398.
