10/27/1947	Indian Governments accepts King of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Harisingh's accession merging Jammu and Kashmir in India and sends its troops. Accession of Jammu and Kashmir was then officially announced. No. 12 Sqn was to initiate the remarkable feat of air-lifting the first Sikhs from Palam onto the rough and dusty Srinagar airstrip without planning or reconnaissance as the initial Indian response to the sizeable insurgent forces that were pouring across the border into Jammu and Kashmir.
4/22/1921	Subhas Chandra Bose, resigned from Indian Civil Service, and formed South Calcutta Sevak Samiti after returning to India. He was also arrested for carrying our freedom movement.
9/25/1984	Indian Army withdraws from the Golden Temple; repair of Akal Takht complete.

10/24/1966	Yugoslavia, UAR call on the US at New Delhi to stop bombing of North Vietnam.
10/16/1905	Bengal was partitioned by Lord Curzon on the pretext of it being too big to administer. Instead of dividing it on the basis of non-Bengali areas, the division was on the basis of Hindus and Muslims. Britishers thought that would succeed in increasing Hindu - Muslim tensions. The tremor of partition was felt throughout India and was regarded as an insult and challenge to Indian Nationalism. A movement was launched by the moderates. New method of protests 'Swadeshi and Swaraj' became the slogan of the common man and the whole of India was drawn into the national movement.
11/5/1996	Madhavrao Scindia rejoins Congress.
