Air Chief Marshal Anil Yashwant Tipnis, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC., became the Air Officer Commanding, India Command. He is the 18th Air Chief Marshal.

5/26/1885Govindagraj (Ram Ganesh Gadkari), great Marathi playwright, comedy author and poet, was born.
5/26/1885Alauddin Khilji captured Chittorhgarh after defeating Rana Bhim Singh. Before the capture, Padmini, the beautiful queen along with several hundred females, had sacrificed herself in fire (Jouhar Pratha). This whole battle was fought due to Padmini.
5/26/1885Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev, was born on Baisakhi in a Khatri family in Talwandi Rae Bhoe in Pakistan, known as Nankana Sahib. Guru Nanak's birthday has been traditionally celebrated on Katik Poornamashi. Althought the correct birth date has been established as Vaisakh 1 (April 14), it will continue to be celebrated on Katik Poornamashi until such time as it is changed to Vaisakh 1. (Most Sikhs in the present day consider themselves members of a separate religion.).

2/6/1932Veena Das, revolutionary freedom fighter, shot Stenly Jackson, Governor of Calcutta at the convocation ceremony of B.A. degree, but Jackson was afraid and bend down, thus the aim was missed.
5/18/1995Sukhomoy Sengupta, 76, Tripura's first CM, passed away.
11/12/1939Pratap Chandra Lal arrived at the training establishment at RAF Station, Risalpur. He then rose to the Air Chief Marcharl of Indian Air Force.
3/17/1989Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, president of Lok Dal (B) and former Union Minister, passed away.
