"The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." These words were spoken by the great inventor Thomas Edison over one hundred years ago and have come true today in the form of chiropractic.

Chiropractic is a form of healing and health maintenance that uses the bodies natural healing abilities to heal itself. The number one job of the chiropractor is to make sure that all of the structures of the body are properly aligned. It is simply not possible for the body to be at its best if the spine and other joints are not properly aligned. Poor alignment of the spine will lead to pain, fatigue, and wear and tear on the spine. This causes an increased state of stress in the body which in turn causes reduced immune system function and increased susceptibility to illness. After working on them, most of my patients will tell me something like, "Wow Dr. Eby, I came in here for whiplash from a car accident but now I feel better than I have in years. I don't hurt, I have more energy, I sleep better and I feel great!" Every time I here this I chuckle a little bit because I knew that would happen. Now that we have restored the alignment in their body, their internal stress is drastically reduced and their body returns to optimal function. In fact the number one comment that I hear in my practice over and over is, "I wish I would have done this years ago." It feels great to feel great.

"Why do so many people come to see you after a car accident?" This is another question that I get all the time. And my answer usually surprises people. I tell people who have been injured in a car accident, " You're body is going to heal itself whether I do anything or not. It's my job to make sure that as your body heals itself, it heals properly." I then give the example of a broken arm. If you break your arm and it is bent at an angle, and you do nothing at all, it is going to heal. But it is going to heal bent at an angle and for the rest of your life you will have a bent arm that will cause you problems. That's why we put a cast on a broken arm so that it heals straight. The spine is exactly the same. If your spine is injured in a car accident it is very likely that it has been bent out of alignment. If it is out of alignment and then "heals" that way, it will be stuck in this misaligned position and could cause you pain and problems for the rest of your life. The only way to check for this misalignment is a special set of x-rays. Make sure everybody you know who has been in a car accident gets to see the chiropractor as soon as possible after the accident to check for this.

"What can I do to keep myself healthy?" I'm currently working on my second book. "Dream health: Five easy steps to healthy living." I'll give you the short version right here: Eat well. Make a habit of eating a fresh fruit or vegetable before eating anything else. Make sure you're getting enough sleep. Find something that you enjoy doing that gives you some exercise and do it regularly. Get your spine checked to make sure it is in proper alignment, and "think and thank." Think about all the wonderful things you have in your life, and be thankful that you have them. If you have any questions I'd love to answer them
